Traditional phishing involves attackers sending fake, malicious links disguised as legitimate messages to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or installing malware. However, phishing attacks have become increasingly advanced, introducing what experts call "phishing 2.0" and psychological phishing. Phishing 2.0 leverages AI to analyse publicly available data, such as social media profiles and public records, to craft highly personalized and convincing messages. These tailored attacks significantly increase the likelihood of success. Psychological manipulation also plays a role in phishing schemes. Attackers exploit emotions like fear and trust, often creating a sense of urgency to pressure victims into acting impulsively. By impersonating trusted entities, such as banks or employers, they pressure victims into following instructions without hesitation. AI has further amplified the efficiency and scale of phishing attacks. Cybercriminals use AI tools to generate convincing scam messages rapidly, launch automated campaigns and target thousands of individuals within minutes. Tools like ChatGPT, when misused in “DAN mode”, can bypass ethical restrictions to craft grammatically correct and compelling messages, aiding attackers who lack English fluency. 2025-02-17T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.cyberskills.ie/explore/news/the-growing-threat-of-phishing-attacks-and-how-to-protect-yourself--.html www.secnews.physaphae.fr/article.php?
Free Online Cybersecurity Awareness Course for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education In today\'s digital world, protecting our teaching environments is more important than ever. The title of his PhD thesis was Enhancing the Security of Software-Defined Networks Through Offensive and Defensive Techniques. As part of his work Dylan uncovered several new security vulnerabilities in software-defined networking, a network technology used data centres and critical communication infrastructure around the world. His work involved developing new attacks to demonstrate the severity of the vulnerabilities that he found, and developing new defence techniques to mitigate these vulnerabilities, making software-defined networking, and the networks that rely on it, safer from cyber criminals 2023-11-06T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.cyberskills.ie/explore/news/cybersecurity-phd-graduation----dr-dylan-smyth.html www.secnews.physaphae.fr/article.php?IdArticle=8517390 False Vulnerability None 2.0000000000000000 Cyber Skills - Podcast Cyber Mois de la cybersécurité: les Irlandais ont demandé à reconsidérer leurs choix de mots de passe
Cyber Security Month: Irish People Urged to Reconsider Their Password Choices 2023-10-17T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.cyberskills.ie/explore/news/cyber-security-month-irish-people-urged-to-reconsider-their-password-choices.html www.secnews.physaphae.fr/article.php?IdArticle=8517394 False Data Breach,Vulnerability,Studies None 2.0000000000000000 Cyber Skills - Podcast Cyber Concours de cybersécurité de pointe et tests de pénétration à RIT
State-of-the-Art Cyber Security Competitions and Penetration Testing at RIT 2023-01-18T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.cyberskills.ie/explore/news/state-of-the-art-cyber-security-competitions-and-penetration-testing-at-rit-.html www.secnews.physaphae.fr/article.php?IdArticle=8517410 False Vulnerability,Threat None 2.0000000000000000 Cyber Skills - Podcast Cyber Gagnant du Cyber Skills Award: Secure Software Development, Pauline Finlay, Edgescan
Cyber Skills Award Winner: Secure Software Development, Pauline Finlay, Edgescan Sponsored by Cyber Ireland The Munster Technological University Faculty of Engineering & Science Awards recognise and celebrate students who have shown academic excellence throughout the year. For the first time this year, Cyber Skills had a category, honouring three students who excelled in their chosen pathway. Pauline shares her experience of studying Secure Software Development with Cyber Skills and the value the pathway has provided her. “Having seen first-hand the damage caused through data loss because of a simple phishing attack, I decided on a career change and returned to TUD to study Digital Forensics & Cyber Security. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) I started as a security analyst with Edgescan where I am currently part of a team dedicated to improving client application and system security. Following on from my degree studies, I was seeking an opportunity to expand my knowledge of secure coding practices, particularly in terms of web applications. The course is delivered language independent allowing each student to focus on the actual coding weaknesses and vulnerabilities and the best practices for their remediation rather than on an unfamiliar coding language. The course not only covers the good coding practices but also how system vulnerabilities can impact the security posture of an organisation in terms of professional standards. I discovered the Cyber Skills Secure Software Development pathway through a Cyber Ireland link and after attending a virtual introduction to the course and listening to what the lecturers had to say about the course decided it would be the perfect opportunity to expand my skills in this area”. 2022-12-19T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.cyberskills.ie/explore/news/cyber-skills-award-winner-secure-software-development-pauline-finlay-edgescan.html www.secnews.physaphae.fr/article.php?
MTU Chair of Cybersecurity organises US-Ireland-Northern Ireland event to address global cyber resilience challenges and opportunities Leading cybersecurity researchers from the United States, Ireland and Northern Ireland are partnering to identify and solve urgent, global cybersecurity challenges.
