In this tutorial, we will be obtaining this file from the UCSC Genome Bioinformatics downloads website. The file we will be using in particular is the hg38.fa.gz file, which as described here, is: “Soft-masked” assembly sequence in one file. Repeats from RepeatMasker and Tandem Repeats Finder (with period of 12 or less) are shown in lower case; non-repeating sequence is shown in upper case.
